At a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s International Champions Cup match against Real Madrid, new Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti quashed any hopes fans may have had of a former midfielder returning.
“What does Bastian Schweinsteiger bring if he comes back to the team that you don’t have now?”
The journalist’s question caught the former Madrid manager Ancelotti by surprise, but the Italian refused to buy into the speculation.
“I don’t have this news. In football there is no if. (Signing) Schweinsteiger is not in our ideas. He was a fantastic player for Bayern, he was a fantastic player for football, but I think that it is not time for him to come back to Munich,” Ancelotti said.
