Sky Germany reports that 1. FC Union Berlin will shortly confirm Belgian centre-back Zeno Van Den Bosch’s capture on a free transfer. The Köpenick-based Bundesliga outfit have been eyeing-up the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for the likely-to-depart Danilho Doekhi for quite some time. Sky claims that Van Den Bosch has passed his Union medical and official confirmation from the club will come shortly.
Van Den Bosch – due to the fact that he sits on an expiring contract with Royal Antwerp – is free to negotiate his departure from his Belgian club during the current January transfer window. The same applies to Union centre-backs Doekhi and Diogo Leite; both of whom are expected to depart Union after the season concludes.
Will there be a surprise twist in the case of Danilho Doekhi?
Sky also claims that VfL Wolfsburg have joined the race to acquire Doekhi on a free. Such a turn-of-events nevertheless seems highly unlikely due to the fact that Doekhi has been linked with Premier League clubs such as Leeds and Aston Villa. Wolfsburg’s current struggles – exemplified by the fact that four separate VfL defenders set a Bundesliga own-goals record this weekend – render it unlikely that Doekhi will be interested in joining Germany’s green company team.
