Sunderland contact Borussia Mönchengladbach over potential Jonas Omlin transfer

Florian Plettenberg reports that Sunderland are interesting in acquiring Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper Jonas Omlin. The Black Cats are prepared to take on the Swiss international, who lost both his No. 1 role and the Gladbach captaincy just prior to the start of the current Bundesliga campaign. At present, Omlin’s estimated market value stands at only €1.5m

Gladbach eager to offload players before the transfer window closes

As noted in our recently published Get German Football News Borussia Mönchengladbach transfer check article, the Westphalian foals are eager to get several players off their payroll in the remaining 10 days of the January window. Omlin counts as perhaps the biggest piece of dead-weight on the BMG squad. The former skipper draws a large salary.

Gladbach maintain several other options to back up or replace current No. 1 Moritz Nicolas, who has also been linked with a move to the Premier League. Any potential deal involving Omlin does face the obstacle of the 32-year-old’s current BMG contract. Omlin must be willing to take a pay cut in order to move.
