Schalke in talks to bring Edin Dzeko back to Germany

Sky Germany reports that Schalke are in talks to bring Edin Dzeko back to Germany, but face competition from abroad.

Die Königsblau are in talks with the Bosnian striker over a move in the winter window. The 39-year-old has six months remaining on his contract at Fiorentina, the team he joined last summer.

However, Schalke face competition from Paris FC, who are also interested in the striker. Not only can they offer first division football, but they can also more or less afford whatever salary that Dzeko demands.

Dzeko, of course, got his big break in Germany. After joining Wolfsburg for €4m in 2007, he would go on to be a key player in Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga-winning season, forming a formidable partnership with Grafite in attack, before leaving for Manchester City three and a half years later for €37m. In the Autostadt, Dzeko played 142 games, scoring 85 and assisting 35.

Schalke’s other winter business:

Schalke are currently first in the 2.Bundesliga, with a four-point lead over Elversberg. As they look to return to the Bundesliga, they have been actively looking to improve their squad in the winter.

They have previously been linked with a move for Union Berlin’s Marin Ljubicic to boost their attacking options, as well as Heidenheim keeper Kevin Müller
