As we enter the latter stages of the transfer market, Simon Rolfes and Bayer Leverkusen have a decision to make regarding their goalkeeping situation.
The 2024 Bundesliga champions confirmed that Mark Flekken suffered a medial ligament tear in his right knee during their Matchday 18 defeat against Hoffenheim, which could see the Dutchman sidelined until March.
His replacement, Janis Blaswich, will start against Olympiacos in the UEFA Champions League, and for the foreseeable future, but Die Werkself could yet enter the transfer market to sign a replacement.
“We have complete confidence in Janis,” Rolfes told Bild, prior to Leverkusen’s departure to Greece. “That’s why we signed him in the summer.”
Nevertheless, “We will discuss the entire situation within the goalkeeping team. Therefore, I can’t rule out that we will do something. Of course, we have to see what the goalkeeping situation will be for the next few weeks.”
Additionally, Nathan Tella suffered a foot injury during their Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim, while Eliesse Ben Seghir also suffered an ankle injury prior to Morocco’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal.
Rolfes did confirm though, that “there will be no changes in that area.”
