Unsurprisingly enough, the reaction of 1. FC Köln professionals to Ragnar Ache’s incredible goal in Saturday’s Bundesliga fixture has been as epic as the goal itself. Ache’s spectacular overhead finish to put Köln up 1-0 against Hoffenheim will be talked about for ages. Ache’s head coach found himself in awe just discussing it.
Ragnar Ache continues to rise
A little over a month after commemorating his very first Bundesliga brace, Ache can now celebrate scoring in back-to-back Bundesliga fixtures. Five goals and four assists constitutes a decent haul for the 27-year-old, who finally seeks to make the leap to the top level relatively late in his career. The Frankfurt-native keeps improving in his first full Bundesliga campaign.
Lukas Kwasniok and Ache speak on the goal
Ache’s head coach admitted that what Ache managed to pull off couldn’t exactly be attributed to much beyond the fact that the former Germany U21 international and Olympic representative is simply growing in confidence. Ache himself wasn’t able to adequately explain what he just accomplished.
“Ragnar is the ‘King-of-the-Air’,” Kwasniok raved at the post match press conference. “You can’t teach that. He’s been working hard for months. When it comes to the ‘Goal-of-the-Year] discussions, the only question left to settle is who will come in second.“
“I didn’t think much about it,” Ache remarked in the mixed zone. “It’s not something one can train. My body felt like it was moving on its own. If the ball goes in, it looks great; if it misses, the whole stadium laughs. It’s always a fifty-fifty situation.“
