Alexander Nübel wants to fight Jonas Urbig for the number one spot at Bayern Munich

Kicker reports that current Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel wishes to fight for the Bayern Munich number one spot upon his return from his loan in the summer.

Nübel is set to return to the Bundesliga holders in the summer after his three years on loan at Stuttgart, but his future in Munich is still up in the air. From the goalkeeper’s perspective, he is ready to fight for the number one position.

At his pre-match press conference ahead of Germany’s game against Ghana, the 29-year-old said the “chances are high” he could return to Bayern.

However, this will depend much on the decision of Manuel Neuer. The 40-year-old is expected to meet with officials from Bayern to try to make a decision on his future.

If he does decide to retire, Jonas Urbig is expected to be the number one; however, Nübel is also ready to fight for the position, as he has played his way to become Germany’s number two and has shown he is a competent goalkeeper at the MHP Arena.

The feelings at Bayern about Nübel are not neutral:

It has previously been reported that Bayern would be open to selling the goalkeeper once he returns, while Kicker also reports that there are some at Säbener Straße who are open to terminating the contract of Nübel, which is still valid until 2030.
