Sky Germany reports that Jürgen Klopp is a potential candidate for the Real Madrid head coaching role if they decide to hire a permanent option in the summer.
This comes after former Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso left his role as head coach at the Bernabeu. He has now been replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa, who has a contract until 2027.
If the opportunity to manage Madrid does come up, Klopp would seriously consider managing the team, despite currently being in his role as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull.
Would Klopp actually manage Madrid?
Klopp has not held a managerial role since 2024, when he departed as Liverpool manager after nearly 10 years at the club. Then, at the beginning of 2025, he was hired at Red Bull.
In the various interviews he has given since, Klopp has repeatedly said not only how happy he is in his current role at Red Bull, but also that he doesn’t have any desire to return to the dugout soon.
In an interview with Welt am Sonntag last summer, the former Borussia Dortmund head coach said on a return to coaching:
“I don’t want that anymore. I have a job now that fulfills me and is also intense. I don’t sleep in the morning and I don’t go to bed later at night, but I can organize my work much better. My wife, for example, is really happy with it because we can plan things much better that we couldn’t before. For me it was never about not doing anything, but rather about doing something else.”
