After 283 appearances across all competitions, Kevin Kampl bid farewell to RB Leipzig after 8.5 years at the Saxony club.
During his stay, the 35-year-old won a DFB Pokal in 2022 and 2023, and helped Leipzig to a Champions League semi-final.
Following the death of his brother, Kampl and Leipzig agreed a mutual contract termination, allowing the Slovenian midfielder to return home. But, he was given a send-off ahead of their Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich.
Visibly fighting tears, Kampl said: “Dear fans, dear RB family, first and foremost I would like to thank you for these eight-and-a-half wonderful years that I was able to play here.
“You gave me a home. My family and I felt so comfortable from day one.”
To commemorate his No. 44 shirt number, Kampl donated 4,444 litres of beer to Leipzig fans as a token of his appreciation to the support he received.
“You have always had my back,” he added. “We have celebrated success, we have overcome lows – but always as a unit.” Concluding, Kampl ended: “I am extremely grateful to you for always seeing me as one of you.”
