‘It’s fun to watch him play football’ – Max Eberl on Said El Mala (19)

Said El Mala (19) has taken the Bundesliga by storm. Jumping from the 3. Liga, where he spent last season on loan at Viktoria Köln, the teenage sensation has transitioned seamlessly into Germany’s top flight.

Chalking seven goals and providing three assists in 17 Bundesliga games for 1. FC Köln this season, the Billy Goats’ attacker has naturally attracted interest, with Brighton making a move before the season had even kicked off.

Dubbed a ‘street footballer’ by Köln head coach Lukas Kwasniok, El Mala impressed Bayern Munich’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, with his Matchday 17 performance against Germany’s record champions.

When asked about El Mala, Eberl replied: “Great guy. It’s fun to watch him play football.”

Naturally, Eberl was asked whether or not he could imaging the teenager play for Bayern Munich one day, to which he dodged.

“You’ll have to ask my Köln colleagues what they think of him,” he said (h/t: iMiaSanMia).

“He’s under contract with Köln. It’s a great story.

“He’s from Köln and also played in Gladbach’s academy, if I understood correctly.”
