Borussia Dortmund have announced that they have made alterations to their Champions League squad ahead of the playoff round.
Later this month, Dortmund will play Atalanta in the playoff round of the Champions League following a 17th-place finish in the league phase.
Following the departures of the likes of Aaron Anselmino and Pascal Groß in the winter window, this has freed up space in die Schwarzgelben’s squad. In their place, midfielder Salih Özcan, as well as forward Samuele Inacio, have been registered for the next round.
Dortmund’s options:
The inclusion of Özcan in the squad now means that Niko Kovac has a slightly more defensive-minded midfielder to call upon if they need to see out the closing stages of a game.
Anselmino’s return to Chelsea also means that Emre Can will need to be played as a centre-back going forward, meaning Dortmund’s midfield options are Felix Nmecha, Jobe Bellingham, Marcel Sabitzer and Carney Chukwuemeka, none of whom are particualry defensive minded.
