VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav was quick to call out his critics after once again scoring in Sunday’s Bundesliga victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. After going two fixtures without a goal, the six-times-capped German international didn’t exactly care for some of the negatives associated with him and his team.
Deniz Undav and Stuttgart back on track
It was precisely one week ago today that Get German Football News published a quote piece in which Undav, Nikolas Nartey, and Ermedin Demirovic reflected on their perfect start to 2026 and fearlessly looked ahead to the future.
The Swabians then promptly proceeded to disappoint in a 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Union Berlin and placed their Europa League campaign in serious peril with a bad loss against AS Rome midweek.
Undav’s latest goal gives him 12 tallies for Stuttgart across all competitions this season. The 29-year-old and a minimum of six of his teammates remain serious contenders to feature for Germany at the coming summer 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Undav came off the bench to score against Gladbach, as did two of his fellow DFB candidates Maximilian Mittelstädt and Chris Führich. Promising German international Jamie Leweling also scored in the win.
Undav pulls no punches
“After two games where I didn’t score, I was a bad striker again,” Undav noted in his post-match interview with DAZN. “Merely because I didn’t convert a few chances. I have to ask myself: what sort of player converts every chance? Everyone talks a lot and I know I had to finish off those chances. But what’s with the talk of a ‘dry spell’?
“Everyone knows what I’ve been doing since November,” Undav continued. “And then after two games, people start nagging from all sides, saying I’m a bad striker, I can’t do anything, and what not. With that in mind, I’d just like to simply state that people can shut up and that’s it.”
