Werder in talks to acquire England U21 international CJ Egan-Riley on loan from Marseille

Sport Bild – as relayed by transfermarkt.de reports that Werder Bremen are pursing England U21 international and former Man City academy CJ Egan-Riley in their quest for assistance at the centre-back position. Egan-Riley hasn’t been featuring much for his Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Marseille. The Bundesliga club wishes to take the €12m-valued professional on loan.

Werder Bremen with no chance at Burnley’s Hjalmar Ekdal

The possibility that Bremen could acquire Burnley central defender Hjalmar Ekdal always appeared remote as the Clarets were only interested in selling their €6m valued professional. Likewise, talks over Egan-Riley will quickly fall apart unless Marseille are interested in constructing a loan deal. Egan-Riley moved to the French club on a free transfer this past autumn and is only in the first year of his three-year-contract.

The 23-year-old has made just nine Ligue 1 appearances this season. Amid his 15 appearances across all competitions, Egan-Riley got his name on the scoresheet once, scoring a goal in a 0-9 rout of Bayeux in the Coup de France.Egan-Riley has remained used in five of Marseille’s last six league encounters.
