The two Bundesliga fixtures cancelled this past weekend due to inclement weather conditions will both be made up on Tuesday, January 27th at 20:30. The DFL confirmed make up dates present no significant problem to all four clubs involved as none are participating in Europe this year. St. Pauli will host Leipzig and Werder Bremen will welcome Hoffenheim the very same week as the final matchdays in the Champions and Europa Leagues.
Which Bundesliga club faces the most difficult schedule?
Of all the four clubs involved, the re-scheduling affects St. Pauli most significantly. Alexander Blessin’s Kiezkicker must face Hamburger SV in the city derby on the weekend of January 23rd. After the make-up match against Leipzig four days later, the “Boys in Brown” travel to Augsburg for a Bundesliga fixture. St. Pauli then face another “Englischer Woche” with their DFB quarterfinal fixture against Leverkusen on February 3rd.
Leipzig will not have to contest two “English weeks” as their Pokal fixture against Bayern won’t take place until February 11th. Bremen and Hoffenheim have also already been eliminated from Germany’s domestic cup. Thanks to the fact that, as noted above, none of the four teams are participating in Europe, the DFL’s first Bundesliga match re-schedules since January 2024 have been rendered rather easy.
