Borussia Dortmund defensive prospect Almugera Kabar (19) set to transfer to Hamburg

Germany’s Ruhr Nachrichten newspaper reports that Borussia Dortmund centre-back Almugera Kabar is on the verge of transferring to Hamburg. The 19-year-old has been linked with a move away from BVB for quite some time. Even Premier League outfit Brentford were reported to be interested in the young Bundesliga professional. Kabar currently maintains a €3m estimated market value.

Kabar is one of the players who served on Christian Wück’s Germany U17 World Cup winning team in November 2023. Since then, the left-back has featured five times in the Bundesliga for the BVB first team. This year, Kabar has worked exclusively with the BVB reserves in the Regionalliga. He has still turned in a highly successful autumn, soaring four goals and adding an assist in 10 appearances for BVB II.

Is anything holding up Kabar’s move to Hamburg?

From the perspective of the player and his potential new Bundesliga club, nothing. RN reports that Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin has convinced Kabar of the HSV project. The teenage talent shall receive a chance to compete with Miro Muheim for the starting left wingback role.

There are nevertheless some problems on the Dortmund front. RN claims that Dortmund do not wish to sell Kabar outright for a bargain-basement price. A loan with a purchase option could be arranged, but there are other Bundesliga clubs who could offer more for Kabar.

Interestingly enough, VfL Wolfsburg – despite their recently reported on problems with budgetary constraints – could actually outbid HSV in this one particular instance. The reporting from the Westphalian newspaper nevertheless directly suggests that Kabar prefers the Hamburg move.
