The Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reports that VfL Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer has turned down a contract offer from one of the Premier League sides interested in his services. The Austrian international has evidently declined to join EPL side Brighton & Hove Albion. The AZ/WAZ report goes on to note that Wimmer may be amenable to a move within the Bundesliga.
With RB Leipzig showing interest, A move to the Isle may not be in the cards for the 24-year-old after all. The German paper specifically notes that talks between Wimmer’s entourage and RB are scheduled in the coming days. Having only recently gotten their head coaching situation straightened out, the German Red Bulls are eager to make their first major splash in the transfer market.
After a strong season in which he featured in several attacking midfield positions, Wimmer has been able to pump his estimated market value back up to €15m. The 24-times-capped ÖFB international scored four goals and contributed five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Autostädter last year. Leipzig may be willing to pay upwards of €20m for him.
