Vincent Kompany laughs at question about Lennart Karl’s World Cup prospects

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany once again found himself in the position of having to brush aside sensational hype about young attacking prospect Lennart Karl on Friday. Kompany first had to laugh at a question from a reporter posed at his Friday pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Bundesliga match against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

It really would be great if one could demonstrate enough quality for the World Cup in one game,” Kompany sarcastically noted when a reporter asked him about Karl’s World Cup prospects. “Julian Nagelsmann has enough difficult decisions to make and he doesn’t need my opinion on how to build his squad.

[Lenny] needs to keep working just like every player who came before him,” Kompany continued. “He needs to work on his training and earning minutes. He’s 17-years-old. My job is to ensure that he gets better at the age of 18, 19, and so forth.

None of this works when one thinks too far in the future,” Kompany concluded. “One has to focus on what one does THIS week.
