VfL Wolfsburg attacker Patrick Wimmer – having openly offered himself to FC Bayern Munich earlier this season – looks to be on the move away from his Bundesliga club this summer. A report in a local German newspaper suggests that two Premier League sides are interested. The Austrian international could be on his way to the Isle.
Despite some rough form patches this season, Wimmer did show flashes of his old potential at times. This has apparently piqued the interest of former FC St. Pauli head coach Fabian Hürzeler of Brighton & Hove Albion. The local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung also lists Fulham FC as a potential suitor.
The AZ/WAZ goes so far as to say that Wimmer has already bade farewell to his Autostädter teammates. Wimmer’s agent, Frank Schreier, is quoted in the article as saying that there have been direct exchanges with top division sides in England, Germany, and France.
There should be no obstacles to Wimmer leaving Wolfsburg for a transfer fee in the €15-20m range. Germany’s green company team paid DSC Arminia Bielefeld just €5m to acquire the now 23-times-capped ÖFB international in January 2022.
