Germany international and Bayern Munich forward, Thomas Müller has confirmed that he will not be retiring from professional football and is eyeing up a possible move to USA with the MLS, according to Sky Sports.
At 35 years young, Müller has won it all at club and international level.
Müller has won the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League twice, Bundesliga 13 times, and two UEFA Super Cups.
Individually, Müller won the Golden Shoe at the 2010 World Cup and been in the top 20 five times of the World Footballer of the Year.
But after over 500 appearances, more than 150 goals, and 17 years with Bayern Munich, Müller is finally moving on.
Whilst there has been speculation of a retirement from professional football, Müller says his desire to play is as great as ever.
“I still want to play football and have therefore decided to continue playing no matter what. I will continue to be a footballer,” Müller said during a commercial shoot.
“I’m trying to take advantage of the opportunity while my body is still fit enough to continue doing so at the highest level, even though I’m obviously no longer in Europe.”
“When you’ve been competing for the highest goals in European football for so long, this step somewhere else is always a big one. But of course, it’s also an adventure, and I’m really looking forward to it now.”
“I still have the desire to play football, and that’s why I’ve decided to definitely continue. I will remain a footballer.”
According to reports, Müller has a choice between Australia or USA.
In Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald reports that Sydney FC is currently courting Müller and in negotiations.
However, Muller is apparently leaning towards joining the MLS with Bayern Munich’s partner club Los Angeles FC.
Sky Sports report that the contract with LA will be finalised and officially announced in the coming days.
Müller has already expressed his excitement at the possible MLS move:
“It will definitely be an experience abroad for me – I’m really looking forward to it and I’m curious. […] The MLS is of course an interesting league, especially with the World Cup taking place in the U.S. next year.”
Whilst playing for Germany at the World Cup may be a distant dream, at least Müller would have front row seats.
