VfB Stuttgart board-member-for-sport Fabian Wohlgemuth has spoken on the state-of-affairs with regard to both Nick Woltemade and Giannis Konstantelias. Woltemade finally reported to Stuttgart training camp today after his summer tour of double duty with the German national team and the Germany U21s earned him an extended vacation. Woltemade underwent performance tests at his current Bundesliga club today.
“Nick will very, very likely remain part of our squad this season,” Wohlgemuth told reporters on Monday. “We have communicated this clearly and publicly. The performance tests have shown that Nick is in good shape. We assume he’ll complete all the training sessions.”
Talks between Stuttgart and Bayern Munich in the Woltemade matter remain at a standstill. In the case of Stuttgart’s stalled pursuit of Greek attacker Giannis Konstantelias, the word “standstill” doesn’t come close to accurately describing what’s actually going on.
Stuttgart and PAOK Saloniki had a written and legally binding agreement to complete the transfer. Konstantelias also signed a written letter of intent to move to the German club.
On his way to a VfB medical at the Amsterdam airport on Friday, however, the 22-year-old was called back to his club’s Holland-based training camp. Stuttgart could actually take legal action in the matter.
“The process has been a bit unconventional so far,” Wohlgemuth noted on Monday, “Things are still up-in-the-air. We’re working to find a solution with Saloniki.“
