Speaking to the media (via kicker), DFB Sporting Director Rudi Völler had nothing but praise for Germany under-21 striker Nick Woltemade.
The Stuttgart striker has had a spectacular start to the under-21 Euros this summer, scoring four and assisting twice in two games to help Germany achieve qualification from their group. Against England on Wednesday, they can secure top spot.
On the 23-year-old, Völler said:
“It’s simply fun to watch him. Not only has he already scored four goals, but you can also always pass to him, which is what makes him so valuable. He holds the ball, and if he loses it, it’s usually a foul against him.”
Despite playing for the Germany national team earlier this month, Woltemade is showing no signs of fatigue.
This season has been the 23-year-old’s breakout year. After joining Stuttgart from Werder Bremen on a free transfer last summer, Woltemade took a while to get up and running, but once he got going, he could not be stopped. The striker ended the season with 17 goals and three assists in 33 games for Stuttgart.
