It is reported that there has only been loose communications between Chelsea and Leipzig over a transfer for Xavi. The Premier League side have reportedly said to the 22-year-old that a move would only be possible if a player heads in the other direction. On top of this, Chelsea are focusing on trying to sign a central defender.

What this means for Leipzig si their plans must also go on hold. Leipzig wants to sign Harvey Elliott from Liverpool and are said to have reached a personal agreement with the England under-21 midfielder. However, until Xavi leaves, they cannot progress the deal.

With the transfer window ticking on, it continues to look likely that the Dutch international may have to spend another six months in Leipzig.
