VfB Stuttgart attacker Enzo Millot’s sale to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli has been officially confirmed. Kicker reports that the Frenchman’s Bundesliga outfit has secured a €28m base-transfer-fee for their player. The fee can rise to over €30m with bonuses. This would make Millot Stuttgart’s third most expensive sale of all time. The Swabians once sold both defender Benjamin Pavard (€35m, 2019) and striker Mario Gomez to Bayern Munich (€30m, 20009).
Millot was available via a €20m exit clause in his current contract. Atletico Madrid were close to signing the 23-year-old for slightly less than that, but talks between the player’s entourage and the La Liga side broke down. The Saudis have shelled out significantly more due to the fact that the release clause only applied to clubs in Europe’s top five leagues.
Millot will serve under German head coach Matthias Jaissle at his new club. The 37-year-old former RB Salzburg coach noted that Millot’s German Bundesliga experience made him an ideal candidate for his team. Jaissle took the reins at Al-Ahli two years ago after four years of working in the Red Bull system in Austria.
“We have been watching Enzo for some time and thoroughly did our homework thoroughly before making our decision,” Jaissle noted in a club statement. “He is technically gifted and has excellent tactical intelligence. The fact that he comes from the Bundesliga is also ideal for us. The league is so physical and fast-paced that he will be well prepared for what we expect from him next season.”
