The DFB sports court handed down its expected judgement of FSV Mainz 05 midfielder Dominik Kohr late Monday evening. The Bundesliga record holder for number of times ejected from a league match will be suspended for three league fixtures and fined €15,000 for his hard foul on Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt last Friday evening.
Kohr was threatened with an even harsher punishment after what all observers agreed was a reckless challenge that deserved a straight red. A four-match-ban would have effectively ended Kohr’s league play for the 2025 calendar year. As the ruling presently stands, Kohr will be eligible again for Mainz’s final league fixture against St. Pauli on December 21st.
Kohr remains eligible for head-coach Bo Henriksen in Mainz’s remaining Conference League fixtures, but Mainz’s performance in Europe isn’t the most exigent problem facing the club. Mainz have won all three of their Conference League fixtures. In the league, Henriksen’s team presently find themselves in the automatic relegation zone after just one win and three draws through 11 matchdays.
