Official | Mainz sign Australian left back Kasey Bos

Mainz 05 have confirmed the signing of Australian left back Kasey Bos. The 21-year-old signed a four-year-deal with the Rheinhessen on Friday. Bos joins the Palatinate club from A-league club Melbourne Victory. A strong season – four goals and two assists in 26 league appearances – led to Bos earning a call up to the Australian national team for the current June World Cup qualifiers.

Terms of the transfer were not divulged. Bos maintains a current €450,000 estimated market value. The younger brother of 19-times-capped Aussie international Jordan Bos, who plys his trade in nearby Belgium, pushes the number of Aussies in Germany’s top footballing flight to three. Socceroo squad captain Jackson Irvine and 26-times-capped international Connor Metcalfe feature for FC St. Pauli.

Mainz – German Conference League representatives next season – have now made two summer signings. Austrian defender Konstantin Schopp arrived on a free while die Nullfünfter invested a significant sum bringing in Union Berlin attacker Benedict Hollerbach.

Kasey Bos is a very strong runner on the left wing who fits the profile we are looking for with his defensive and offensive strengths and his courageous style of play,” Mainz sporting director Nico Bungert noted in a club statement. “He has already proven his talent in the A-League. We believe that he has the potential to succeed in the Bundesliga and that he will continue to develop well alongside an established professional like Phillipp Mwene.”

“The talks with the sporting management were great and the city itself also makes a really cool impression,” Bos himself added. “The Bundesliga is extremely exciting for me, the level of football is top notch. Mitchell Langerak [a former Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart professional], my teammate from Melbourne, has already given me some tips. I’m now looking forward to getting to know the team and the fans soon and exploring Mainz further.
