SC Freiburg have confirmed the sale of Austrian striker Michael Gregoritsch to Brøndby IF. Gregoritsch departs German football after 13 years spent in the country and moves to a non-German speaking country for the first time in his entire career. Gregoritsch’s latest Bundesliga outfit secured a modest €1.5m transfer fee for the 31-year-old.
“Gregerl has been the face of our team for the past three years and we have had many great experiences together,” SCF board member Jochen Saier noted in a club statement. “His winning goal in extra time in the play-offs against Lens [in the 2023/24 Europa League], for example, will always be moment that brings up goose-bumps.“
“Freiburg has grown close to my heart in recent years, both professionally and privately,” the 66-times-capped ÖFB international himself added. “The decision was really not an easy one for me. I look back with fondness on our time together and can say that SC has gained a true fan.“
