As German national tram head coach Julian Nagelsmann actively seeks to build a system centered around Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund players, Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach is one of the odd men out. The fact that the 26-year-old is doing well under German head coach Daniel Farke in Yorkshire remains irrelevant. Stach cannot seem to get himself back on the radar so long as he isn’t in the Bundesliga.
Stach moved to Leeds from Hoffenheim this past summer for a €20m transfer fee. Solid performances in the Premier League have enabled the defensive midfielder to raise his estimated market value by €6m since completing the switch. Stach was nevertheless not considered for Germany despite the fact that he is in stronger form than other German midfield call ups such as Aleksandar Pavlovic, Leon Goretzka, Felix Nmecha, Robert Andrich, and Angelo Stiller.
Stach has been capped twice for Germany at senior level, but last appeared for the German Nationalmannschaft under Hansi Flick in 2022. In an interview with Sky Sports, the highly experienced and versatile professional expressed frustration that he had not heard from the Nagelsmann coaching regime at all. Stach regularly featured at Mainz and Hoffenheim as a midfielder/centre-back for four seasons.
“There has been no communication so far,” Stach noted in his interview with Sky. “I have to say, I find that a bit of a shame. When there is no communication at all, you get the feeling that you are very far away from the team and not even being considered.”
