The Kölner Express reports that FC Köln have set their sights on promising Swiss winger/forward Joël Monteiro of Young Boys Bern. Having already signed two new attackers ahead of the coming Bundesliga season, die Geißböcke may be able to add a third at a reasonable price.
Monteiro – a four-times-capped Swiss international – has been sidelined with injury since April. Prior to incurring his ankle ligament tear, Monteiro scored nine goals and provided ten assists for his club in 41 appearances across all competitions.
Monteiro’s 2023/24 Swiss League campaign (twelve goals) was also impressive. The 25-year-old reached a career-high estimated market value of €7m in December 2024, thanks in large part due to excellent performances in the Swiss domestic cup.
The Express reports that Monteiro’s Swiss outfit is willing to cash in on him for far less than his current €6m value. The German paper claims that – in lieu of the fact that the player is entering the final year of his contract – a purchase of €2-3m could be arranged.
