Gio Reyna ready to make Borussia Mönchengladbach debut

According to Kicker, Giovanni Reyna is in line to make his debut for Borussia Mönchengladbach this weekend at home against Werder Bremen.

Reyna started in a 2-0 friendly victory over Schalke during the international break, recording an assist. That performance could give head coach Gerardo Seoane a selection headache over whether to start the 22-year-old or keep him on the bench.

Speaking after making his first appearance for his new club, Reyna said: “Since I haven’t had too much match practice recently, the friendly was important for me to build up some rhythm and some fitness. I’m feeling better and better, both mentally and physically, thanks to good training sessions and a 70-minute run-out against Schalke.”

After a difficult few years at Borussia Dortmund, Reyna is relishing a fresh start with the Foals, hoping it will lead to a successful season and ultimately a recall to the USMNT ahead of the World Cup.

On his chances of making his country’s squad next summer, Reyna added: “The most important thing is that I play regularly. I hope I can build up some rhythm in the next few weeks and put in some good performances for Borussia. I can worry about other things after that. It would, of course, be nice to get back into the national side.”
