Borussia Dortmund maintained their fine goalscoring form in this season’s UEFA Champions League with a comfortable 4-2 victory at Copenhagen on Matchday three.
Felix Nmecha chipped in with two goals, the first being a fantastic strike from the edge of the penalty area. Reflecting on the finish, Nmecha remained humble: “I love doing this move and it worked. Then it was just a good shot.”
The second did take a deflection which wrong-footed Dominik Kotarski in the Copenhagen goal, but Nmecha was nonetheless happy to contribute again: “I had to keep the ball away from the defender a little bit, then I thought ‘I’ll just shoot now’, and I thank God it worked.”
Speaking about BVB’s prolific scoring run – three straight Champions League games in which they have netted four goals – Nmecha added: “Things are going well with the goals. I think we can be satisfied, but we also know that there is room for improvement of course. Hopefully we can just keep going and playing better and better.”
There was also a special moment for Fabio Silva, who came off the bench to score his first goal for Die Schwarzgelben. A delighted Silva said: “I always try to use my energy and help my teammates to create chances. I’m very happy about this goal.”
The Portuguese forward has had a tough start to life in the Ruhrgebiet, with an injury having limited his game time thus far. He was quick to credit teammates and staff for their support: “My teammates, all the lads who have worked with me in the gym since my injury, have done a lot to help me. Now I feel 100% fit again. Many thanks to everyone who has worked with me. Thanks to the coach.”
