Fabio Silva set to feature in Borussia Dortmund squad

New Borussia Dortmund signing Fabio Silva is set to feature in die Schwarzgelben’s matchday squad for the first time, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.

The 22-year-old will travel to Mainz with his new team on Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga game, providing Silva faces no further setbacks in BVB’s final two training sessions.

Silva, who joined from Wolves for €22m, is back sooner than expected following a serious adductor injury sustained while on loan at Spanish side UD Las Palmas. It’s an injury that caused controversy, with Borussia Dortmund only learning of the Portuguese forward’s surgery just before undergoing his medical at the end of August.

Despite Silva’s surgery, Borussia Dortmund still pushed to complete the deal.

“It’s not a big deal at first,” said Lars Ricken. “We saw that with Serhou Guirassy. He also arrived with an injury. We’re not thinking in terms of days and weeks, but long-term, in terms of years.”

Ricken also emphasised before Dortmund’s draw against Juventus that they’ll need to be “patient” with Silva who, per RN, has increased his workload in recent days and trained with the team for the first time on Wednesday.
