Exciting Swiss prospect Johan Manzambi receives new Freiburg deal

One of German football’s rising stars has received a new contract. SC Freiburg’s Johan Manzambi – who generated quite a bit of buzz near the end of the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign – inked a new deal on Tuesday afternoon. Terms of the 19-year-old’s extension in Breisgau were not divulged.

Manzambi only made his Bundesliga debut this past April. After notching a memorable late game-winning goal in a dramatic matchday 29 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, however, the Geneva native immediately began garnering regular minutes.

In four starts over the seasons final five matchdays, Manzambi scored another goal and registered two assists. After the season concluded, the teenage talent earned two caps at senior level for his native Switzerland. Manzambi scored his first international goal in his second Switzerland cap.

SCF personnel boss Jochen Saier praised Manzambi’s “exceptional form and development” in a club statement. The player himself declared himself enthused about carrying on with the Schwarzwaldverein, noting “I really wanted to stay here” in his own published remarks.
