Eintracht Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp mulls over Paris FC move, Werder Bremen’s Michael Zetterer may serve as emergency replacement

There may be a fairly significant, and most unexpected, goalkeeper shuffle brewing in the German Bundesliga ahead of the coming season. Kicker lends some credence to a rumor surfacing in Le Parisienregarding Eintracht Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp. It might be the case that the 35-year-old is headed to newly promoted Ligue 1 outfit Paris FC.

Trapp already spent three seasons in Paris as a PSG professional between 2015 and 2018. Considered nothing more than a placeholder for young Eintracht prospect Kaua Santos at this point, it looks to be the case that Trapp wishes to return to the “City of Light” rather than serve as a lame-duck on the banks of the Rhine.

Frankfurt nevertheless cannot rely upon Kaua Santos to step into Trapp’s role immediately as the Brazilian is on the mend from a major injury incurred last season. An emergency solution must be procured. Kicker and others report that Eintracht will try to acquire Werder Bremen’s Michael Zetterer as their immediate new No. 1.

Zetterer recently beat out young challenger Mio Backhaus for the starting spot in training camp, but is himself considered little more than a lame-duck placeholder. Bremen wish to tap Backhaus as the club’s future No. 1 and Zetterer remains very much aware of this. A deal could be advantageous to all parties involved.

Kicker emphasizes that Trapp – who is entering the final year of his SGE contract – hasn’t made up his mind just yet. Eintracht, per the magazine, have also not tendered an official offer for Zetterer yet. Much of this remains in the nascent stages.
