Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund have set a deadline for when Nico Schlotterbeck must make a decision on his future.
Negotiations are well underway between die Schwarzgelben and Schlotterbeck over a contract extension beyond 2027. The central defender has already rejected the first offer from the club with a salary of €8m per year.
Now, Dortmund has set a deadline of the spring, by which Schlotterbeck must decide on his future at the Westfalenstadion. It has previously been said that the club are even willing to let the German international leave on a free transfer in 2027.
Schlotterbeck’s current demands are that he wishes for a salary of at least €10m, but he also wants a release clause to be included in his new contract.
Dortmund’s long-term hope for Schlotterbeck:
The plan at the Westfalenstadion is to make Schlotterbeck the new face of the club; the 25-year-old is expected to follow in the footsteps of both Marco Reus and Mats Hummels.
However, if he does not extend his contract at the club, this would massively dent their plans. On top of this, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have been linked with Schlotterbeck in recent weeks as the contract negotiations drag on.
