Sky Germany reports that Borussia Dortmund are looking to extend the contract of Julian Brandt, with his current deal to expire in the summer.
With Brandt’s contract expiring at the end of the season, there had been multiple rumours about whether Dortmund would let him leave on a free or extend his contract. Now, die Schwarzgelben have decided on the latter option.
However, there will be conditions to the extension.
The 29-year-old currently earns seven to eight million, and if he is to sign a new contract, Brandt will be required to take a pay cut, and his salary will be more performance-based.
Brandt’s current stance at Dortmund:
Both Sebastian Kehl and Niko Kovac are in favour of extending the contract of Brandt, whose performances under the Croatian have improved considerably.
The attacking midfielder is one of the club’s vice captains, and if he does not start for Dortmund, Brandt has proven to be an impact off the bench in recent weeks. For example, against Bayern Munich, the 29-year-old scored the goal that gave the visitors a chance at a comeback.
One player who will leave the Signal Iduna Park in the summer will be Niklas Süle. Dortmund have decided not to extend his contract.
