Denmark’s Kasper Hjulmand a candidate to work Bayer Leverkusen bench

Kicker and Sport Bild report that former Danish national team head coach Kasper Hjulmand is a candidate for the vacant head coaching position at Bayer Leverkusen. As the Bundesliga outfit approaches the one-week-mark since the sensational dismissal of Erik ten Hag, there are also some names no longer in the running. Ange Postecoglou and Thiago Motta are – per the two sources – no longer being considered.

Hjulmand, fluent in both Danish and German, would fit in well with Germany’s red company team. The 53-year-old also already has experience coaching in the German top flight. Long before Hjulmand’s Danish compatriots Bo Svensson and Bo Henriksen held the reins at Mainz, Hjulmand worked as Thomas Tuchel’s successor at the Rheinhessen between May 2014 and February 2015.

Neither publication has much more to report about some of the rumors surfacing late last week linking longtime B04 head coach Roger Schmidt with a return to Leverkusen. As it stands now, ten Hag’s assistant Rogier Meijer will stand on the sidelines as interim trainer when die Werkself resume league play against Eintracht Frankfurt next weekend.
