Only two days after Union Berlin defender, Danilho Doekhi sent shockwaves across Germany with a brace against Bayern Munich, Sky Sports reports that he intends to leave Union Berlin no later than summer 2026.
Doekhi has a contract until then, but a free transfer is unlikely as Union Berlin will not rule out a January move.
Doekhi has a reported current market value of 13 million euros.
With six goals already this season, Doekhi is in high demand and will look to capitalise on his recent exploits at both ends of the pitch.
Doekhi is the most prolific central defender in Europe, and there are enquiries from Bundesliga competitors, England’s Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s La Liga, the Netherlands, and Türkiye.
Union Berlin are currently 11th in the Bundesliga with 12 points, five points above St Pauli in 16th, and Doekhi will leave a gaping hole in defence.
On Saturday, Doekhi was the thorn in Bayern Munich’s side, as Union Berlin became the first side this season to stop Bayern from winning.
His two goals build on a winning finish against Bielefeld in the DFB Pokal and two in a 3-1 win at home to Gladbach.
If not for a last-minute Harry Kane header, Union would have run out deserved winners against the reigning Bundesliga champions.
The Doekhi double leaves Union Berlin comfortable in mid-table Bundesliga obscurity, but his departure could usher in a change of fortunes.
Union Berlin will need to move quickly to secure his cover if he departs in the January transfer window.
