Daniel Svensson on Borussia Dortmund’s goals: “We want to continue the trend and fight for titles”

Speaking to kicker, Borussia Dortmund left-back Daniel Svensson has talked about the overall goals of the club.

Svensson joined Dortmund in the winter, initially on loan from Nordsjælland in Denmark, before the move was made permanent this summer. The 23-year-old has been a revelation at Dortmund in the left-back position, as they have struggled in that department for several years.

On what the club’s goals are, Svensson said:

It has to be a return to where Dortmund has been in recent years. Of course, last season was good in the end, but overall it wasn’t what we wanted. We want to continue the trend and fight for titles. The chance of that is great; that has to be our goal.

Considering the comments of Dortmund’s people in power in recent weeks, this bucks the trend. Previously, people such as Lars Ricken have said they would be happy with Dortmund finishing just in the top four.

The fact that Dortmund are one of the biggest teams in Germany and the only one that financially can come close to competing with Bayern Munich, it is a strange thing to say and an odd stance to take. So a player coming out and saying the club wants to win is refreshing.
