Breakthrough in Jonathan Burkardt’s transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt

Bild reports that following a meeting between club officials from Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz on Tuesday, Jonathan Burkardt is nearing a move to die Adler. The German’s move is expected to be finalised on Wednesday for a reported fee under €25m.

This breakthrough comes after it was reported that the two clubs were ‘expected to meet in the middle’ for Burkardt, with Eintracht previously offering €15m to secure the player’s signing with Mainz wanting a fee closer to €35m. But it now appears that the transfer is on the home straight.

It’s been long reported that Burkardt – who scored 18 goals and provided three assists in 29 Bundesliga games for Mainz last season – has long reached an agreement over terms with Eintracht, who will be playing Champions League football next season. The 24-year-old was the highest scoring German in Europe’s top leagues and is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Hessen club until 2030 where he will earn over €2.5m per year.
