Borussia Dortmund’s Yan Couto: ‘It’s a challenge for me’

After joining Borussia Dortmund for a reported €24m after certain conditions were met in the player’s agreement while on loan from Manchester City, Yan Couto has since expressed his desire to excel at the club despite a difficult time.

Speaking in an interview with Brazilian TV – cited by Bild – while at the FIFA Club World Cup, Couto revealed how alienated he feels at the club, putting doubt on his immediate future.

“I played in Spain for four years,” said Couto. “I got used to the language and the people. I didn’t expect the move to Germany to be so different.” Adding: “Both personally and in dealing with the club and people who are more isolated. It’s not easy, but it makes a big difference.” During his time at Girona, Couto’s mother also lived, and still does, in the country. “I’m coming to Germany and living alone,” added the 23-year-old.

“It’s not easy, which is why many Brazilians don’t come to Germany anymore. It’s a challenge for me, but I have to deal with it.”

Although Couto’s statements questions the player’s future, the right-wing-back vowed to showcase Borussia Dortmund his talent, despite a difficult time in his early BVB career: “The fans haven’t seen my best version, and I want to show that in the coming season.”
