Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund are looking to offer head coach Niko Kovac a one-year extension, following his strong start at the club.
Kovac’s current contract at Dortmund expires next summer, as when he took over at the beginning of the year, it was only a short-term deal, but since his hiring, Kovac has completely turned Dortmund around and led them to Champions League qualification.
Dortmund are said to be working to get the deal done as soon as possible. The best-case scenario would see Kovac extend his contract during pre-season.
The hope is that the extension will also deter interest from other clubs who have begun to show interest in the Croatian. Since Kovac took over, only Bayern Munich has collected more points than Dortmund in the Bundesliga.
die Schwarzgelben are currently participating in the Club World Cup but have yet to secure qualification for the next round after drawing with Fluminense in their first game and beating Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in their second game.
