Benjamin Sesko opts for Manchester United

Benjamin Sesko is at the centre of a tug-of-war battle between Newcastle United and Manchester United to secure the RB Leipzig forward’s transfer.

After seeing their opening offer of €80m including bonuses rejected, Newcastle United submitted a second offer of €90m including bonuses which has since been accepted. However, David Ornstein reports that Sesko wants to join Manchester United over their Premier League counterparts, and it’s known to all parties. It was reported that MUFC were ready to match any offer from NUFC with a departure from Leipzig now imminent, with the Slovenian forward already telling teammates that he will be leaving the club this summer.

Speaking after a Saturday friendly against Atalanta, RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer effectively confirmed that Sesko will be leaving his current German club. Sesko was present at Leipzig training on Tuesday, but trained individually apart from the team.

After missing out on European football completely, Leipzig are set for a huge shake-up in attack with Sesko, Loïs Openda and Xavi Simons all departure candidates.
