Bayern Munich aim to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract with new release clause

Negotiations between Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano regarding a contract extension beyond 2026 have been ongoing for some time now, but there’s a potential breakthrough in discussions.

The ‘Bayern Insider’ podcast noted that one option is a four-year extension that would include a release clause after two seasons, which would be further reduced after a third season.

This is because Upamecano wants to play in the Premier League at some point in his career and with a release clause inserted into the player’s contract, his dream could become a possibility if a club is willing to pay.

Liverpool and Chelsea are two clubs that have previously shown an interest in signing Upamecano, who already had a release clause but with an expiring contract, is now irrelevant as clubs can open talks with the player in January because with six months remaining on the defender’s deal.

According to the report, Upamecano’s representatives are asking for a signing bonus of around €17m but if no agreement is reached, then Bayern Munich will likely turn their attention towards Crystal Palace and England international defender Marc Guehi.
