Augsburg’s Sandro Wagner rails after latest Bundesliga loss: “We don’t want to win!”

FC Augsburg head coach Sandro Wagner is once again stammering and stuttering as his side fails to perform. The Bavarian Swabian Bundesliga outfit simply can’t seem to garner any real momentum. A serviceable home win over Hamburger SV last week was once again followed up by a wretched 3-0 away loss at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim this weekend.

Wagner’s squad once again found themselves thoroughly outclassed by their hosts. Wagner’s tone has oscillated sharply throughout Augsburg’s disappointing season. The 38-year-old has gone from accepting personal accountability to placing blame on his players and then taking responsibility again. Now, he doesn’t seem to know how to explain matters at all.

We simply need to win consecutive games,” Wagner noted at yesterday’s post-match press conference. “We must be more courageous. When we don’t want to win, that’s not acceptable. We can’t accept this. We can’t find the rhythm. We can’t build on our momentum. We have to question ourselves.

We got off to a decent start in the first five minutes, then had a disastrous 25 minutes,” Wagner also noted. “The second half was much better, but that doesn’t help. When the TSG wants to win the game more than the FSC for long stretches of the first half, that’s just not good enough.”
