Arsenal are looking to strengthen their attacking line and are reportedly considering an approach for Mainz 05 striker, Nelson Weiper, according to sources.
At just 20 years old, Weiper has worked his way through the Mainz youth ranks and only made his Bundesliga debut last season, with notable goals against Kiel, Heidenheim, and Stuttgart as Mainz qualified for Europe in sixth.
However, Weiper stood out in this summer’s Euro under 21 Championships as Germany reached the final, only to lose out to England in Extra-time.
Weiper scored in four consecutive games and began Germany’s comeback in the final with a goal in first-half added time, before Marseille’s Jonathan Rowe stole the show late on for England.
Weiper was a highlight of the tournament and is sure to be a regular international for Germany in the years to come.
His performances have garnered interest from across Europe this summer.
Weiper has attracted interest from various Premier League clubs, including Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal have now joined the interested parties.
However, Mainz are eager to retain the 20-year-old.
Weiper is under contract until June 2026 and Mainz currently value him at around €14 million.
Weiper won’t come cheap, but if the first half of 2025 is anything to go by, he will be worth every penny.
