Manu Koné likely to be out until September with a knee injury

Kicker reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Manu Koné could be out until at least September following the knee injury he suffered during the Under-21 European Championships.

Koné was originally expected to return in the middle of August after making good progress on his recovery, however, the 22-year-old has now stalled in his recovery and is expected to be out for longer. Koné will now likely return after the international break in September.

The midfielder has been able to recover quickly from injuries during his two years at Gladbach, but the club are expected to not rush Koné back from his injury. Koné is one of the more durable players in the Gladbach squad and played 30 games in the Bundesliga last season missing only one game due to suspension until April. Then in the latter half of the season, fatigue and wear caught up to the midfield and he missed three games due to knocks.

It is likely that Koné will now stay at Gladbach this season after it had been initially reported that Gladbach will be open to selling the 22-year-old this summer but due to the long layoff, a sale will likely have to wait until next summer.
