Manchester United made an attempt to hijack Bayern Munich’s Kim-Min jae deal

Bayern Munich are expected to announce the signing of Napoli and South Korea defender Kim-Min jae in the coming days but according to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United made an attempt to hijack the transfer two weeks ago.

Within the last 24 hours, Bayern Munich have triggered Kim’s €50m release clause which became active on July 1. The reasoning for the delayed transfer is because the central-defender had to complete his mandatory military service, which ended on July 6.

As reported by several outlets, Kim has already completed his medical and will be a new Bayern Munich player in the coming days. And as further reported by Plettenberg, Kim only wanted to join Bayern Munich and had rejected several top offers.

With the pending departure of Lucas Hernandez, who is expected to join PSG, Bayern’s signing of Kim is a statement. In his only season at Napoli, the South Korean helped the club lift the Serie A and was one of the league’s best players.
