Bundesliga Predictions | Round 1

In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?

Manu’s Game of the Week: Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich

My match of the week is Werder Bremen against Bayern Munich. Before Bayern against Dortmund was a thing, this was the game with the most drama in German football. In the early 1990s, Bremen challenged Bayern for dominance of the Bundesliga. In Willi Lemke, Bremen had a sporting director in constant feud with Uli Hoeneß. Those days seem long in the past but Bremen against Bayern should still be fun this weekend, especially as it will be Harry Kane’s first game in the Bundesliga. Will Kane succeed in a new environment? Is he the missing piece? Can Bremen with Niclas Füllkrug upset the applecart? Tune in on Friday to find out!

Manu’s Predictions:

  • Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
  • Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 RB Leipzig
  • Wolfsburg 3-0 Heidenheim
  • Hoffenheim 2-1 Freiburg
  • Augsburg 0-3 Borussia Mönchengladbach
  • Stuttgart 2-1 Bochum
  • Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Köln
  • Union Berlin 2-1 Mainz
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 Darmstadt

Stefan’s Game of the Week: Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig

My match of the week has to be Bayer Leverkusen welcoming RB Leipzig to the BayArena on Saturday. Both of these clubs have squads capable of finishing in the top four and that will be the bare minimum expected of them, but there’s no doubt that Marco Rose and Xabi Alonso harbour secret desires to go even further than that and challenge for the league title. Whether either club can do exactly that remains to be seen, but on Saturday we’re sure to enjoy an exciting contest between two excellent teams, full of brilliant players. And a perfect start to the new Bundesliga season.

Stefan’s Predictions:

  • Werder Bremen 0-2 Bayern Munich
  • Bayer Leverkusen 1-1 RB Leipzig
  • Wolfsburg 2-0 Heidenheim
  • Hoffenheim 1-2 Freiburg
  • Augsburg 1-2 Borussia Monchengladbach
  • Stuttgart 1-0 Bochum
  • Borussia Dortmund 3-1 Köln
  • Union Berlin – 1-0 Mainz
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 Darmstadt
