Niko Kovač: “Hansi Flick was my idea.”

Speaking extensively to Sport Bild, AS Monaco head coach Niko Kovač discussed his former club Bayern Munich and the impressive job Hansi Flick has achieved in winning the Champions League.

“I supported Bayern in the final not because of money, but because I have links to the people at the club,” said Kovač. “I’d have loved to be there, but Hansi and the boys did a great job.

“I was happy for them. I’m not the kind of person who would hope for things to be bad after I left. I’ve congratulated everyone from the bottom of my heart.”

Kovač was instrumental in bringing former Germany assistant coach Flick to the club: “Hansi Flick was my idea.

“I went with this idea to my brother Robert and to Uli Hoeneß. Uli had the same thought, we quickly reached an agreement. We both thought about Hansi.”
