Wolfsburg are closing in on the transfer of Sheffield United’s Vinícius Souza. Kicker cite Brazilian reports that the Bundesliga side will pay around €15m to bring the midfielder to Germany with a medical scheduled for the beginning of the week.
Souza comes with Premier League experience having played 36 games for Sheffield United in the 2023/24 season prior to their relegation, before making 38 appearances across all competitions for the Blades last season. The arrival of Souza would significantly strengthen VfL defensive-midfield options, a position that they’ve been ‘working intensively’ to improve this summer.
The 26-year-old, who joined Lommel from Flamengo in 2021 before spending time on loan at KV Mechelen and Espanyol before joining Sheffield United in 2023. Souza’s arrival would arguably be Wolfsburg’s highest-profile signing since the transfer of Lovro Majer from Rennes in 2023 for €25m. He would also become the club’s second arrival this summer following Jakub Zielinski’s €900k move from Legia Warsaw.
Wolfsburg also signed Mohamed Amoura and Denis Vavro on permanent deals following impressive loan spells last season.
